TEEEL (Jim Smith) is an electronic music producer/songwriter from New Jersey, founder of Synth Records (Synthemesc Recordings) and iheartsynths.com. Inspired by the 80s new wave movement, TEEEL creates hypnotic vocal synthpop to dark electronic rock in a 10×10 teal painted room, stacked with synthesizers and guitars.
TEEEL’s critically-acclaimed debut album, “Amulet” (Moodgadget Records, 2011) generated quite the buzz in the blog world. His sophomore album “University Heights” was later self-released (Synth Records 2012) and received stellar praise. Joined by guitarist Stephen Chladniček in 2013, the “Hydrostatic” LP (Mush Records 2014) pushed the TEEEL sound into a new direction. The most recent release, “Montage Scene” (Synth Records 2016), is a departure from the classic indie pop sound and was released as an instrumental synthwave album. A new TEEEL EP is expected in 2016.
Recently writing music for Canon (2016), the movie “The Gift” (2015) and a TEEEL sound library “Retro Wave” (2015) for the Loopmasters company, TEEEL is diving into a new soundscape. TEEEL music has been featured by Nike’s Jordan brand in a Carmelo Anthony promo video and Neil deGrasse Tyson’s “Star Talk” radio. Along with film music, TEEEL has a slew of remixes for indie artists such as The New Division, Com Truise, Estate, Brothertiger, and more.
Outside of the studio, Smith combines powerful and seductive vocals with the swirling sound of the MOOG synthesizer and massive analog drums. Stephen, whose technical abilities were perfected during a long history of touring around the globe in metal bands, brings precise guitar riffs that add a new dynamic to the TEEEL sound. Together, they put on a provocative show with music ranging from dark, grooving electronic rock to fun, hypnotic dance tracks. In appearances across the U.S.–including SXSW–TEEEL consistently captures the crowd’s attention and imagination, offering an entrancing glimpse of the future.
